A progressive Jewish viewpoint

Here in the UK we seldom hear a sane view on Palestine etc. from influential Jewish people. Here is a link from Democracy Now! of 13 August 2015 (sorry about the delay). It's an hour-long contribution from Henry Siegman, former Executive Director of the American Jewish Congress. Worth listening to.

Thank you, Julian Bond

One of the useful attributes of Democracy Now! is information about activists in momentous campaigns such as against the Vietnam war and for civil rights.

Here is a link to a tribute to Julian Bond who's just died after a courageous life.

Information from CAAT concerning arms fairs

I was pleased to receive an informative email from Campaign Against the Arms Trade (CAAT). The subject of the email is on their website and here is the link:

I urge you to read it and to respond as they request.

Hiroshima Day 2015

Today Democracy Now! broadcasts an interesting edition devoted almost completely to Hiroshima.

It's mainly an interview by Amy Goodman of Kenzaburo Oe, the Japanese laureate for the Nobel Prize for Literature. Ok; I didn't know him either but it is a fascinating interview which I recommend.

I agree with his stance except perhaps on civil nuclear power which I have been in favour of for decades but I sometimes waver. I do not like the lumping together of military and civil nuclear reactions.
