Thought-provoking contributions by Glenn Greenwald

Glenn Greenwald recently appeared on Democracy Now! to savage any idea that current US/UK actions in north Iraq are anything to do with a humanitarian agenda.

He criticises NPR for accepting at face value 'information' provided to them by the CIA and disseminating it.

A Recipe For Civil War

Democracy Now! recently interviewed Matthieu Aikins, a George Polk Award winner who lives in Kabul.

It concerns the very informative US-based 'War on Peace' programme, essential knowledge to those who follow world issues.

Both parts of the interview are here:

My photos from the #GazA9 protest in London

It won't surprise my readers that I attended what I think will become the famous Gaza/Palestine show of support in London on 9 August 2014.

I had some photos taken on my behalf which are on my Flickr:

The Stop The War Coalition has an informative report on the event here:

Two news stories that have come across my desktop

Here are some recent stories that you might have missed:

From Wikileaks is a transcript of a report on the record-long detention sentences given to prisoners, sometimes minors, in Sweden:

http://wlcentral.org/node/2955

We grew up with the knowledge that Sweden was one of the fairest and most open societies on Earth. Is this still the case? This story would indicate not. Quite apart from any other considerations, Julian Assange is fearful that if he were arraigned in Sweden he would be kept in communicado in jail with not even access to a lawyer. This is not a fanciful fear.

Glenn Greenwald recently tweeted my attention towards this article on his new organisation, The Intercept. It is about the Obama administration's expansion of the dreaded 'Terrorist watch list.'

Communications from Glenn Greenwald are always worth reading. This article was co-authored by Jeremy Scahill, whose writing I very much enjoy. He talks a mile a minute but very clearly so I am able to hear him still

Details are to follow but for now it is happening at 12 noon on 9 August in Central London. I hope to go and show my support.

Does the US/Israeli Iron Dome system work?

The answer to this question is almost certainly 'no.' Or at least, it does work from the point of view from the Israeli establishment and US military contractors.

Democracy Now! interviewed MIT expert Theodore Postol. It is compelling. It is recommended that you access the interview in these two parts:
